Dartmoor Railway Welcome to the Dartmoor Railway. The Dartmoor Railway operates on the route of the old Southern Railway line from Crediton to Okehampton and Meldon Quarry. The 15 mile Dartmoor Railway climbs 600 feet from the Tarka Line, near Coleford through Sampford Courtenay and Okehampton and onwards to Meldon, high on the flank of Dartmoor. The line survived the Beeching axe, and is now being developed by a unique partnership of public and private sectors, to once again serve the picturesque area of Devon and the Dartmoor National Park through which it runs.
